Not My Fastest 5K, But One I’m Definitely Proud Of!

If you listen carefully you can hear one of my kids yell, “You’re not an old man yet!” πŸ˜‚

This past weekend I got to enjoy family, friends, tractors, funnel cake, and fresh sweet corn – all as a part of “Cascade Hometown Days” in the great state of Iowa! πŸŒ½πŸ„πŸ˜ƒ

On Saturday morning I had the opportunity to run in the Cascade 5K for the second year in a row. Here’s my post-race recap:

I definitely paced the race better this year (I actually saved some in the tank so I could drop the hammer and kick the last 3/10 of a mile or so – always a good feeling!).Β

And as for my most personally important barometer, EFFORT: I left it all on the course (I literally had to lay on my back sprawled out on the concrete for a few minutes before I could function properly πŸ€ͺπŸ™ƒπŸ’ͺπŸ†).

So, all in all, a race I’m proud of. It wasn’t my fastest 5K (in fact, almost 2 minutes slower than last year!), but based on my endurance training this summer I feel like I still got the most out of myself AND, more importantly, accomplished one of my goals for 2023: Having β€œfun with fitness”. πŸ€ πŸ‘

Oh, and I had the best (and loudest!) fans on the course (my family)! πŸ₯°

I’ll certainly be back next year for my 3rd running of the Cascade 5K. I’m already looking forward to it! πŸŽ‰

RACE SPLITS AND FINAL TIME:

Mile 1 – 7:35
Mile 2 – 7:47
Mile 3 – 7:36
Last 1/10 – 0:41

Finish time – 23:39
